Dear Sir/Madame,
My name is Lara Al-Khlaifat and I am a physiotherapist studying for a PhD at the
Centre for Research into Human Performance and Rehabilitation at The University
of Salford, the work is supervised by Rich Jones and Dr Sarah Tyson. I am
investigating the effect of hip muscle strengthening exercises in patients with
knee osteoarthritis (OA) to determine the effect on pain, function and lower
limb biomechanics. As a first step, I need to establish current physiotherapy
practice for these patients by surveying physiotherapists across Greater
Manchester.
I have contacted the physiotherapists in the PCTs as well as the trusts.
However, your opinion and experience is much appreciated. Would it be possible
for the physiotherapists who treat people with knee OA to complete a brief
questionnaire? This could be done either by post or email.
The questionnaire takes about 10 minutes to complete and just asks how often you
treat people with OA, your main aims of treatment and details of the techniques
you use. All responses will be anonymised and treated in complete confidence.
The results of the survey will be used to develop an evidence based ‘best
practice’ exercise programme which is specifically designed to be feasible to
use in clinical practice. This will be tested in following stages of the
project.
p.s. The survey merely involves asking NHS staff about their normal practise,
NHS ethics and R&D approval are not required, as explained in the National
Research Ethics Service’s website (http://www.nres.npsa.nhs.uk/). Also, ReGroup
considered this study as a "Notification only" study.
Please could you send me an e-mail to L.Al-Khlaifat@pgr.salford.ac.uk if it is
possible for you to complete the questionnaire and how do you prefer the
questionnaire to be sent? And I will send it to you according to your preferred
method.
Thank you
Regards,
Lara Al-Khlaifat
