    Clinical Gait Engineer,
    Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre,
    Oxford,
    England

    The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre Trust aims to provide a
    Clinical Gait Analysis service at the Oxford Orthopaedic
    Engineering Centre. A full time Clinical Gait Engineer
    is required. The duties of the Clinical Gait Engineer
    will include the following:

    1 Perform gait analyses on patients referred by clinicians.
    The main patient group will be children with cerebal palsy.

    2 Contribute to clinical reports on subjects after gait
    analysis. Develop workable protocols, extending to other
    patient groups and establish liaison with other clinical
    gait establishments.

    3 Maintain and manage a database of gait analyses.

    4 Maintain and manage the gait laboratory.

    5 Develop gait research projects, and aid other researchers
    with gait related topics. Provide input to on-going
    development of joint and musclo-skeletal models by the
    Orthopaedic Mechanics Group.

    6 Develop common dialogue with clinicians based at the
    Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, aiming to improve clinical
    understanding of gait analysis.

    A physiotherapist will also be appointed, part-time in the first
    instance. The facilities at the centre include a fully equipped
    gait laboratory using the Oxford Metrics Vicon 370 gait analysis
    system, Kistler and AMTI force measurement platforms and a Motion
    Control EMG system.

    The preferred candidate will hold an engineering degree
    (Mechanical or related) and a higher degree in Orthopaedic
    Mechanics. Applicants should have experience of gait analysis, preferably
    in a clinical setting, and be computer literate, have experience in C, C++
    and MS Windows programming. Experience of interfacing transducers and computers
    will be an advantage, as will any instrumentation experience.
    Training will be provided.

    Salary will be on the Clinical Scientist scale about 16,000 pounds.
