Lecturer in Gait Analysis and Human Joint Mechanics
Lecturer salary in the range £42,060 to £46,970 per annum
Imperial College has been awarded almost £11 million over 5 years by the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC for a Centre for Medical Engineering Solutions in the Management of Osteoarthritis. There are a number of departments, divisions and institutes across Imperial College participating in this exciting new initiative. We wish to appoint 6 academic staff, of which this post is one. The expectation is that at the end of the 5 year grant period, the appointee will become a permanent member of the academic staff.
The appointee will be expected to plan and direct the implementation of research activities and programmes of outstanding quality, international repute and innovation and advance the reputation of the Department, the Centre and the College. Specific areas of interest for this post include gait analysis, human joint kinematics and contact analysis, surgical navigation and robotics, integration with medical imaging. We plan to develop a facility for analysis of load-bearing joint mechanics via high-speed fluoroscopy or other imaging modality, linked to dynamic measurement and then interfacing with robotic studies in-vitro. Experience in working across disciplines, especially between engineering and surgery or imaging, is desirable.
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in biomechanics, human movement analysis, surgical navigation or similar subject area. They should have an outstanding research record as demonstrated by their publications. Teaching experience and competence is also required, with the ability to contribute to the teaching in the Mechanical Engineering Department.
