for immediately available, Research Assistant positions in the Military
Performance Laboratory (MPL), at the Center for the Interpid (CFI), Fort
Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas and the Center for Performance and
Clinical Research (CPCR) at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC),
Washington, DC.
The facilities were developed to provide state-of-the-art care for
injured service members, as they work to return to the highest levels of
physical, psychological, and emotional function. The centers provide
injured Service members with the best technology available to precisely
assess and maximize physical performance. Personnel from the centers
provide clinical gait analysis services, conduct research to improve
patient management, and provide education and training in leading-edge
care and rehabilitation of the amputee patient.
Available positions are Full Time in direct support of research
protocols. The associated projects will examine the influence of new
microprocessor controlled prosthetic devices on physical performance in
individuals who have sustained lower extremity amputation. The
incumbents will ensure timely completion of research protocols and
assist with activities related to data collection, processing and

The Military Performance Laboratory (MPL) is a 5,300 sq foot state of
the art facility with capabilities that include a 24 camera Motion
Analysis Corporation motion capture system, 8 force plates in the main
walkway and an inclining walkway that provides the ability to assess
kinetics and kinematics during stair and slope ambulation.
The Center for Performance and Clinical Research (CPCR) is a 1,700 sq
foot state of the art facility with capabilities that include a 23
camera Vicon motion capture system, 6 force plates in the main walkway
and an inclining walkway in close proximity that provides the ability to
assess kinetics and kinematics during stair and slope ambulation.
Essential Duties (90%)
-Conduct kinematic and kinetic data collection and processing
-Maintain files on research subjects, maintain equipment and computer
resources
-Assist with explaining protocols and obtaining signed consent, assist
the supervisor in preparing annual progress reports, and manuscripts on
the results of research studies.
-Provide administrative support.
Other Duties (10%)
-Maintain sufficient supplies for function of the lab, assist with
interpretation of data, and perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge/Skills
-Candidate must have a Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution,
Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and working knowledge of
biomechanics
-Familiarity with the function of gait laboratories and research
protocols is desirable.
-Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing
research tasks is favorable.
-Candidates must possess interpersonal skills to work effectively with
patients and staff, be comfortable working with computer software,
including: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and have a willingness
to learn and trouble shoot computer related issues.
-Knowledge of MATLAB, EVART, NEXUS and/or Visual3D is highly desirable.
-Candidates MUST have U.S. citizenship or the ability to obtain
citizenship, and be able to pass a government background investigation
