    The Department of Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chairperson to begin September 1, 2010. Credentials should be appropriate for a tenured appointment at the Professor rank, and include an earned doctorate in one of the fields of kinesiology. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to provide strong academic, administrative, research and professional leadership to a diverse faculty and student community. The chairperson reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. As the chief administrative official of the department, the chairperson will also be expected to manage budgetary and personnel matters, promote curriculum development and educational innovation within the department, and foster collaborations with other departments at TTU and the TTU-Medical School.



    The department offers BS and MS degrees, and participates in PhD programs with exercise and sport sciences concentrations. The department is one of the largest departments at Texas Tech University and enrolls over 1,100 undergraduates in programs of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Physical Education/Teacher Education, Exercise and Health Promotion, Exercise Sciences and Sport Studies). Approximately 60 graduate students are enrolled in the Master's degree program of Exercise and Sport Sciences (concentrations in Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Exercise and Sport Psychology, Motor Behavior, Sport Management, Strength and Conditioning, and Teaching Physical Education and Sport). The department also provides concentration areas (Physical Education Teacher Education and Exercise and Sport Psychology) in doctoral programs with the College of Education. Texas Tech University is a large state-supported institution located in Lubbock, Texas, a center of cultural, commercial, medical, and professional services. In addition to nearly all traditional colleges and schools, the University has a nationally recognized law and medical schools.
