Professor and Director, Musculoskeletal Research Group, Griffith
University
The Musculoskeletal Research Centre (MRC) is an emerging area of research
strength within the Griffith Institute of Health and Medical Research. The
aim of the MRC is to develop a strong national and international profile
at Griffith University for research excellence in basic and applied
research in the areas of bone, muscle, movement neuroscience, and
biomechanics. To reach its potential the MRC requires an experienced
leader to provide direction, foster innovation, and utilise their national
and international linkages to support existing and developing researchers.
MRC members consist of researchers with expertise in medicine, muscle and
bone physiology, biomechanics, neuroscience, functional anatomy, and the
exercise and rehabilitation sciences. Research conducted within the MRC
ranges from the neuro-musculo-skeletal basis of function through to the
early intervention and treatment of neuro-musculo-skeletal disorders in
the community. Specific areas of research strength within MRC include the
neuro-mechanics of ageing, muscle function in health and disease,
prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, and bone
adaptation to mechanical loading. The MRC currently consists of 20 full
members and approximately 10 PhD students.
The successful applicant is expected to have an outstanding profile in
research leadership and a proven ability to attract competitive research
funding, mentor staff and students, and to publish in high-quality
peer-reviewed journals.
