The Biomechanics/ Sports Medicine Program in the Department of Exercise,
Sport, & Leisure Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is
seeking highly motivated graduate students to enroll in our doctoral
program.
Current areas of research interest are as follows. Dr Milner's work
focuses on lower extremity injury, injury prevention, and
rehabilitation. This includes overuse injuries in female jumping
athletes, running injuries, gait after knee replacement, and
biomechanical risk factors for osteoarthritis progression. Dr. Zhang's
research interests are in lower extremity functions and impact loading
attenuation in dynamic activities, injury mechanisms and prevention,
biomechanical functions of athletic footwear and medical orthoses, human
performance mechanisms, and performance variability and research design
in biomechanics research.
We anticipate financial support being available in the form of graduate
teaching assistantships. These include a stipend, plus fee-waiver, and
will be available beginning Fall 2010. Prospective doctoral students
should contact the faculty member that they are interested in working
with to discuss areas of research interest.

Designated as a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive university, UT is
the oldest, largest and most comprehensive institution of higher
education in Tennessee. Academic programs on the Knoxville campus
enroll approximately 20,000 undergraduate students and 6,000 graduate
students. Detailed information about the University of Tennessee may be
obtained by visiting the Web site: http://www.utk.edu.
Knoxville is both the oldest and the third-largest city in the state of
Tennessee (only Memphis and Nashville are larger). On the edge of the
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, along the Tennessee River, it is
within a day's drive of many major metropolitan areas, including Atlanta
and Chicago. The city is connected by 41 miles of Greenways, several of
which provide access to campus. In addition to the great outdoors,
Knoxville has a vibrant arts scene, including the Dogwood Arts Festival,
and Boomsday. For more details of what Knoxville has to offer:
