    Research Technician in the Structure and Motion Lab
    Location: Near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, England
    Salary: £25,771 pa inclusive of London allowance
    Closing Date: Tuesday 16 March 2010
    Interview Date: Tuesday 30 March 2010

    We seek a Research Technician to work in the dynamic and successful
    Structure and Motion group. You will provide research support on a
    BBSRC funded project: 'Mechanics and energetics of stable bipedal
    locomotion in uneven terrain: Does a trade-off exist between economy
    and stability?' This is a 36-month fixed-term position.

    The research will involve studies of walking and running in birds
    ranging in size from quail to ostrich. The technician will assist in
    all stages of the research process. This will involve handling and
    exercising of birds, collection and analysis of data (force platform,
    motion analysis, respirometry and anatomy) and implementing Good
    Research Practice and Health and Safety.

    You should be enthusiastic about research and have excellent
    organisational and interpersonal skills. Experience undertaking
    research in biomechanics, physiology or engineering is essential, as
    is a science-related degree or HND/HNC. You must be willing to handle
    and work around ground birds.
