Position Description: Assistant/Associate Professor of Physical Therapy
School of Physical Therapy, Old Dominion University
The School of Physical Therapy at Old Dominion University (ODU) is inviting applications for a full time, ten-month tenure track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the professional preparation Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. The position is a research and teaching position. Teaching responsibilities will be in content areas that match the applicant$B!G(Bs scholarship and departmental needs. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring students and taking an active role in department and university service and professional development. Candidates with research expertise in clinical movement areas (e.g., Biomechanics, Motor Control, Kinesiology, Neurology/Neuroscience, Cardiopulmonary and/or Exercise Physiology) are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Physical Therapy Department is currently involved with a number of collaborative research projects involving both departments within ODU (Departments of Movement Sciences, and Engineering), the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (www.vmasc.odu.edu). VMASC is one of the world$B!G(Bs leading university research centers for computer modeling, simulation and visualization.
Minimum qualifications include: a doctoral degree in a related field, record of research and record of excellent teaching effectiveness of doctoral level coursework. Ideal applicants should demonstrate post$B!>(Bdoctoral training and a clinical degree in Physical Therapy. Effective communication skills are required. Applicants should have research expertise and experience in the clinical, biomechanical and/or neurological basis of human movement. Applicants should demonstrate a record of research, reflected in extramural grant acquisition and publication in high quality peer$B!>(Breviewed journals.
Old Dominion University is a state-assisted, Carnegie doctoral/research - extensive institution enrolling more than 21,000 students, with 6,000 graduate students. The School of Physical Therapy resides in the College of Health Sciences and has approximately 120 within the degree. Physical Therapy faculty also contribute to advising and research in the College of Health Sciences$B!G(B doctoral degree in Health Sciences Research, as well as with doctoral students in the Department of Human Movement Sciences.
The School of Physical Therapy$B!G(Bs facilities includes a new 3800 square feet state of the art facility for the study of human movement (http://hs.odu.edu/physther/resources/lab.shtml). The selected candidate will be expected to play an integral role in the continued growth of the research faculty with the aim of achieving successes in cutting-edge research and external funding. The university$B!G(Bs main campus is in Norfolk, Virginia, a major seaport/resort area with a population in excess of 1.5 million people.
