    Research Officer in Human Biomechanics
Project: Biomechanics of the rugby scrum
Location: University of Bath, Bath, United Kingdom
    Salary: Grade 7, £29,853
Closing date: Friday 2 April 2010
Interview Date: Wednesday 14 April 2010
Start Date: 1 May 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter
    Application Details: http://www.bath.ac.uk/jobs/Vacancy.aspx?ref=JK12

We seek to appoint a research officer for a fixed term of 2 years (with an
option for a 3rd year) to lead on a project to investigate the
biomechanical demands experienced by rugby union players during
scrummaging. This post is supported by the International Rugby Board (iRB)
and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a project which will
identify the playing, coaching and match official techniques that permit
effective rugby scrummaging whilst managing injury risk.

Applicants should have experience of independently designing and conducting
research studies, some experience of working with sport participants and a
sound knowledge of biomechanical experimental techniques and statistical
methods. Possessing excellent interpersonal skills, the successful
candidate will be expected to work closely with other members of the
project team, including academic, industrial and rugby collaborators. A
track record of research and publications in sport science / sports
engineering is essential and the successful candidate will preferably have
completed a doctoral thesis in a relevant area. Knowledge and previous
experience of research in applied human biomechanics relating to injury
prevention and technique analysis would be an advantage. The work will be
conducted within the structure of the Integrative Human Performance group
in the School for Health but will also involve extensive work in the field.

Start Date: 1st May 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter
