    Job Description and Responsibilities
    The University of Michigan Orthopaedic Research Laboratories (ORL) is a consortium encompassing the molecular, cellular, physiologic, bioengineering and pre-clinical imaging research of the faculty of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, at the University of Michigan. A highly multidisciplinary, energetic, innovative and productive faculty reside within a large contiguous research facility with extensive shared core resources. The environment provided by faculty, staff and trainees composed of biologists, engineers and clinicians, catalyzes the collaborative research programs focused on improving the treatment or prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and disease.

    The specific areas of research for this position include (i) measurement of contractile and mechanical properties of skeletal muscle and tendon tissue, (ii) performance of cellular and molecular biology assays (DNA, RNA and protein purification, qPCR, immunoblots, EMSAs, immunohistochemistry, transfection, mammalian cell culture). Non-experimental duties include general lab maintenance, supplies ordering, data analysis, assistance with manuscript submission, creating figures, assistance with IRB and UCUCA approvals, and supervision of undergraduate student researchers. The candidate will ultimately be expected to work independently on collection of data and data analyses, but supervision and training by senior research personnel will ensure that applicable technical skills have been learned.


    Requirements
    BS degree in biological sciences or biomedical engineering field, MS preferred. One to three years of related experience in molecular biology or tissue biomechanics is highly desirable.
