We have two new exciting job opportunities funded by WELMEC - a Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering funded by the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC.
Research Fellow/Assistant in Nutrient Transport Simulation Job reference: 312459 - Closing date 31st March 2010. Fixed term 3 years available as soon as possible.
Research Fellow/Assistant in Biotribology of Meniscus and Meniscus Substitutions Job reference: 312468 - Closing date 20th April 2010. Fixed term 44 months available from 1st October 2010.
WELMEC - a Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering funded by the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC aims to improve the quality of life and economic productivity of the ageing population through novel diagnosis and interventions for cardiovascular and musculoskeletal disease including new biosensors and methods of imaging, longer lasting joint replacements, novel regenerative scaffolds for cardiovascular and musculoskeletal applications, and targeted delivery of autologous stem cells. The Centre will translate internationally leading multidisciplinary research into innovative products and services to directly address clinical needs enabling us all to enjoy an active life for longer and ultimately achieve "50 more years from 50".
WELMEC, which supports fifty academic and fifty research staff across seven departments in the University and the Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust, is hosted through the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE), one of the top bioengineering research institutes in the world. In addition to this, WELMEC is aligned to a wider programme of medical and biological engineering research which will involve over 200 research staff and students supported by over £100m of research funding over the next five years.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, physicists, clinicians and medical physicists to undertake research. You will have a PhD (or expect to be awarded one shortly) in a relevant discipline (see each job for more information) and will have experience of project management. The roles require that you have the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Both posts are advertised at University Grade 7 (£29,853 - £35,646 p.a.).
