been filled. As of this posting all positions remain open.*

Post-doctoral Fellowships in Neuro-Musculoskeletal Research at the
    Kessler Foundation Research Center

The Kessler Foundation Research Center (West Orange, New Jersey) is
recruiting three postdoctoral fellows for its ARRT Center on
Neuro-Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Research. These fellowships are
funded by an Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training (ARRT) grant from
the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research
(NIDRR). One position opens in spring 2010, and the remaining two
positions will open in summer 2010. Each of the fellowships awarded
within the ARRT Center is expected to last for a two year term.

Primary mentorship for these fellowships is provided by the scientists
of the Kessler Foundation Research Center’s Rehabilitation Engineering
(REAL) and Human Performance and Motion Analysis (HPMAL) laboratories.
Co-mentorship is available from scientists in the Research Center’s
other laboratories, as well as externally from the many affiliates and
collaborators as described below. Applicants are encouraged to visit the
    Research Center’s website ( http://www.kesslerfoundation.org/research/ )
to learn about the missions, activities, and resources of the Center and
its laboratories. Research training is individualized and
multidisciplinary, and emphasizes the formulation and execution of one
    or more research projects.

Current research areas of high priority are:

    * Treatment and image-based evaluation in musculoskeletal conditions
    such as osteoarthritis
    * Assistive devices for recovery of gait after stroke
    * Spinal cord injury research related to neuroplasticity, electrical
    stimulation and musculoskeletal atropy

Within or beyond these focus areas, inquiries and applications from
well qualified applicants specializing in medical rehabilitation
research for adults in stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain
injury, and musculoskeletal disease populations are welcome. Qualifying
candidates must have an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering,
biomechanics, rehabilitation engineering, kinesiology, or a related
field. Strong candidates will have prior experience in performing
research studies in human subjects, as well as some history of
publication and presentation of original research. Additional desirable
skills and experience include: knowledge of statistical data analysis,
ability to independently develop processing methods for data analysis
(using for example Matlab or Labview), experience with motion analysis,
experience with medical imaging, and excellent written communication
    skills.

The Kessler Foundation Research Center is a division of Kessler
Foundation, a public charity that advances its mission of improving the
lives of people with disabilities through research and grant-making
programs. The Kessler Foundation Research Center currently has
approximately 70 dedicated research staff and is collocated with the
renowned Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, New
Jersey. Numerous research collaborations exist between the scientific
staff of the Kessler Foundation and the clinical staff of Kessler
Institute. The Kessler Foundation Research Center enjoys additional
close collaborations with partners at the New Jersey Institute of
Technology, Rutgers- The State University of New Jersey, Seton Hall
University, New York University, and the University of Delaware.

Administration of the ARRT fellowships occurs under the Department of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical School in Newark. As such,
fellows enjoy the benefits and academic resources available to all
post-doctoral fellows at the Medical School. Fellows may also be
recommended for an academic appointment at the rank of Instructor.
