  • Research Scientist - Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago

Research Scientist, Musculoskeletal Research, Rehabilitation Institute of
    Chicago, Chicago, Illinois

    Position:

    Research

    Organization:

    The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago

    Location:

    Chicago, Illinois

    Deadline:

    ASAP
    Description:

A research scientist opportunity is now available at the newly established
Center on Clinical Musculoskeletal Research at the Rehabilitation Institute
of Chicago (RIC). The RIC offers a multi-site system of clinical care for
musculoskeletal and neurological illnesses, and is closely affiliated with
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and the McCormick
School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. We are based in Chicago, and
offer clinical services throughout northern Illinois

The successful candidate must have expertise in a field related to clinical
musculoskeletal biomechanics, such as engineering, kinesiology, or physical
    therapy.

Areas of research expertise may include, but are not limited to, gait and
motion analysis, joint biomechanics, tissue injury, rehabilitative
biomechanics, musculoskeletal modeling, and the study of muscle activation
patterns for enhanced performance or reduced risk of injury. Applicants with
a fundamental research focus including healthy or pathological human
populations with potential clinical applications are especially encouraged
to apply. Potential candidates are expected to have a strong portfolio of
scholarly research including peer-reviewed publications, and evidence for
potential extramural funding on issues pertaining to clinical
    musculoskeletal biomechanics.

The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team consisting
of Joel Press, MD (Medical Director, Spine & Sports Rehabilitation Center),
Colleen Fitzgerald, MD, M.D., (Medical Director, Women's Health
Rehabilitation), Li Qun Zhang, Ph.D., Wendy Murray, Ph.D., Yasin Dhaher,
Ph.D., and Zev Rymer, M.D., Ph.D., Director of Research at the
Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Research opportunities exist within
the RIC but also in collaboration with the Biomedical Engineering Department
at Northwestern University and the Universities' multiple research centers,
including the Center for Advanced MRI (CAMRI).

Facilities for research include established laboratories for gait analysis,
joint biomechanics, clinical robotics, hand and limb mechanics, and modeling
and simulation facilities housed within the RIC. Additional information can
be secured at www.smpp.northwestern.edu, or by contacting Dr. Yasin Dhaher
    (address below).
    Qualifications:

Ph.D. (or an equivalent degree) in mechanics, mechanical, biomedical,
engineering sciences, physical therapy or equivalent.

Salary will be set to a level appropriate for an assistant professor in
engineering or biomedical sciences at a tier I research university.

A faculty appointment (non-tenure eligible) may also be available in an
affiliated department of Northwestern University, depending on the
    successful applicants area of research.

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago encourages applications from all
qualified individuals, including women, members of visible minorities,
native peoples, and persons with disabilities.

The position is available immediately. Applications received after May 1,
2010 cannot be guaranteed full consideration. Interested candidates should
send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three
references to Dr. Yasin Y. Dhaher.
