Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Bone Biomechanics

    Position Description
A postdoctoral position in bone biomechanics is available at the Hard
Tissue Biomechanics Laboratory, the University of Texas at San Antonio
(UTSA), which is located in the central Texas and a fast growing and
dynamic teaching and research university in the region. This position
will focus on use of synchrotron x-ray scattering techniques to
characterize the in situ mechanical behavior of bone and to elucidate
age-related changes in bone quality at ultrastructural levels. The
incumbent of the position will be mainly responsible for designing and
conducting experiments, data processing, and interpretation using the
synchrotron x-ray facilities at Advanced Photon Sources of Argonne
National Laboratory, Chicago. In addition, s/he will be required to help
writing technical papers and research grants and to supervise graduate
and undergraduate students working in the laboratory. The initial
appointment of this position is one year starting on August 1, 2010, and
the extension of the position is possible pending for future funding.
The salary and other benefits are negotiable and highly competitive.

    Qualifications
Applicants with a PhD in physics, biomedical engineering, mechanical
engineering, and materials science will be considered. The successful
candidate should have extensive research experience in bone tissue
mechanics and basic skills in conducting mechanical tests and image
processing of bone. Background in x-ray diffraction is highly desirable.
