We have three exciting job opportunities in the area of Cartilage Tribology with a focus on knee and spinal joints. These posts are available within the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE), University of Leeds as part of an EPSRC funded Programme on the Biotribology of Articular Cartilage. More details below.
Research Fellow/Assistant in Facet joint experimental characterisation/ simulation
The project involves the creation, commissioning and utilisation on facet joint simulations in an experimental context including the use of natural tissues. Job Ref 312486.
Research Fellow/Assistant in Computational Simulation of the Spinal Facet Joints and Functional Spinal Unit
The project involves the development of validated finite element models to simulate the behaviour of the spinal facet joints within larger models of the functional spinal unit. Once developed, the models will be used to analyse new treatments for both the facet joints themselves, such as modifications to the bearing surfaces, and the behaviour of the facet joints following other interventions such as total disc replacement. Job Ref 312487.
Research Fellow/Assistant in Computational Modelling of Dynamics and Tribology of Natural Knee Joints and Interventions
The project involves the development of computational models for a whole knee joint system. Job Ref 312488.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, physicists, clinicians and medical physicists to undertake research. You will have a PhD (or expect to be awarded one shortly) in a relevant discipline (see each job for more information) and will have experience of project management. The roles require that you have the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
All 3 jobs are for a fixed term period of 32 months. Applications must be received by the closing date of 12 midnight on Tuesday18th May 2010.
All posts are advertised at University Grade 7 (£29,853 - £35,646 p.a.) however, it is likely that an appointment will be made at £29,853 p.a. since there are funding limitations which dictate the level at which the appointment can be made.
