  • Advanced School: Nano- and Micro-Mechanics of Living Cell Adhesion

    Dear Biomch-L Subscribers,

This is to call your attention to the advanced school described here below.
More information can be found at http://www.cism.it/courses/C1003/.

Please, note that the deadline for application is Friday, May 14, 2010.

    Dear Addressee,

This is to call your attention to the upcoming CISM school

Nano- and Micro-Mechanics of Living Cell Adhesion
    Udine (Italy), June 14-18, 2010

CISM is an important centre for the promotion of mechanical sciences (see
http://www.cism.it). It is located in a historic building in the centre of
Udine, a nice town in the north-eastern part of Italy, ninety miles away
    from Venice.
The subject of cell adhesion will be treated in this school as an
outstanding "case study" of the relationship among relatively simple
physical mechanisms and major biological effects. Lectures will be
    delivered by

Fabrizio Cleri: Molecular modelling of adhesion
Dennis E. Discher: Experiments on and modelling of cell adhesion
Antonio DiCarlo: Continuum modelling in cell adhesion
Bertrand Fourcade: Modelling actin-membrane machinery and
    mechano-sensitivity in cell adhesion
Felix Ritort: Theory and experiments in single-molecule mechanics
Ulrich Schwarz: Modelling the interplay between cell adhesion and mechanics
Guido Serini: Molecular mechanisms of cell adhesion to the extracellular
    matrix

Detailed information about the programme and the procedure for admission
can be found in the attached flyer and at
http://www.cism.it/courses/C1003/. Application forms should be uploaded
onto the web site http://www.cism.it or sent to CISM by post before May
14, 2010. Registered participants will be invited to contribute posters,
and a time slot will be allotted for a brief introduction to each poster.

You, and colleagues or students in your research group, are kindly invited
to consider enrolling. We also kindly ask you to spread this information
by posting the attached flyer and forwarding this email to anybody you
think could be interested in attending the school.

    Best regards,

    Fabrizio Cleri and Antonio DiCarlo
Directors of the CISM school on
