  • Postdoctoral position at Georgia Institute of Technology,Atlanta, USA

The Biomechanics and Motor Control Laboratory at the School of Applied
Physiology of Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a
postdoctoral position to work on a project 'Sensorimotor Control of
Locomotion after Peripheral Nerve Injury'. The scope of the project
includes investigations of (1) short-term motor compensations after
peripheral nerve injury in an animal model, (2) effects of electrical
stimulation of the proximal nerve stump after nerve cut and repair on
muscle reinnervation and movement coordination, and (3) effects of
feedback from paw skin and intact synergists on locomotor adaptation to
the loss of feedback from self-reinnervated muscles. The research involves
close collaboration with Dr. Robert J. Gregor (USC, Georgia Tech), Dr.
Arthur W. English (Emory University), and Dr. T. Richard Nichols (Georgia
Tech). The laboratory is equipped with a 6-camera Vicon system, three
small Bertec force platforms, a sonomicrometry system and additional
equipment for in-vivo nerve stimulations and chronic recordings of muscle
and nerve activity, tendon force and muscle fascicle length.

The appointment will be for up to 2 years and start immediately.
Successful candidate is expected to have background in human/animal
movement science, biomedical engineering, neurophysiology or related
fields. Experience in motion analysis, animal surgery and chronic
    physiological recordings is beneficial.

Existing research programs at the School of Applied Physiology use a
systems physiology approach to study movement and mobility at all levels,
from molecule to organism. Research areas include muscle and exercise
physiology, neural control of movement, biomechanics, and prosthetics and
orthotics. Opportunities for collaboration exist on campus and with the
Emory University School of Medicine, Georgia State University and the
    Atlanta VA Medical Center.

Interested individuals should send their CV, research summary, and contact
information of three references to Dr. Boris I. Prilutsky at
    boris.prilutsky@ap.gatech.edu.
