Magnets, magnetic fields and magnetic sensors are now found in many different medical
and biological applications. For example, magnetic nanoparticles are now widely used for applications such as drug release within the body and cancer detection. Magnetic sensors are being used to detect magnetic microtags, which have encoded with biochemicals, such as DNA and antibodies. Magnetic fields are being used on the body to stimulate muscles and the brain, which include the design of new coils to achieve the required magnetic fields. This seminar will look at these different aspects of magnetics in medicine and biomagnetics.
