The School of Physical Education is
currently housed in purpose
built facilities opened in 1990 and
comprising of world standard
practical facilities serviced by air
conditioned lecture rooms,
laboratories and personnel offices.
Comparable facilities with
enhanced laboratory potential are planned
for the move to the main
university campus in the near future.
The School currently offers a range of
pre-service and in-service
courses for teachers of physical
education. The first intake of
degree course students commenced in July
1991, and it is intended
that programmes in the academic base of
physical education, sports
studies and sports science will be
expanded in the near future.
Opportunities for the development of
postgraduate and research
programmes are similarly envisaged.
Academic staff are therefore sought who
would be committed to the
ongoing development of physical education
teacher education while
at the same time able to contribute to
academic studies within the
discipline of Biomechanics. As well as
demonstrated or potential
leadership in a recognised discipline,
expertise in curriculum
development in school will be highly
regarded. The ability to
contribute at a superior level in one of
more practical areas will
be expected.
Applicants would be expected to have PhDs
in the relevant areas and
have substantial experience in teaching
at the primary or secondary
level.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Gross Annual emoluments range
as follows:
Professor : S$108,870 - S$146,970
Associate Professor: S$88,650 - S$122,870
Senior Lecturer : S$58,680 - S$100,310
Lecturer : S$39,350 - S$64,200
US$ = $1.50 Sing $
Can$ = $1.10 Sing.$
UK = $2.33 Sing.$
In addition to the above, there will be
payment of an annual
variable bonus, the quantum of which is
tied to national economic
performance. In the past few years,
these payments have ranged
from 1 to 2 1/2 months' salary.
Successful candidates will be offered
salaries on scales which will
be commensurate with their qualifications
and experience.
Other benefits for staff appointed under
expatriate terms include:
* An end of contract grauity of 25% of
staff member's last drawn
grosss slary for each completed month of
service.
* Settling-in allowance, passage
assistance, baggage allowance and
car loan.
* Housing allowance of between S$14,400
to S$21,600 per annum.
* Leave and medical benefits.
* Educational allowance for children
below 18 years of age up to a
maximum of S$30,000 per annum.
* Free passage for home leave after 3
year contract, if contract is
renewed.
Staff members will be encouraged to
undertake outside consulting
work of a specialist nature. They will
be permitted to earn and
retain such consultation fees up to a
maximum of 60% of their gross
emoluments in any one calender year.
