Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Clinical Biomechanics
Applications are invited for a two year Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Clinical Biomechanics to be carried out in the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Calgary. The successful candidate will focus on osteoarthritis research joining the multidisciplinary Alberta Osteoarthritis Team. The research will be primarily carried out in the Running Injury Clinic which has state-of-art equipment including an 8-camera Vicon motion capture system, instrumented treadmill, clinical assessment tools, and excellent computing facilities. The goal of the Running Injury Clinic is to educate and develop injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for runners and walkers of all ages through world-class research and clinical practice. The Clinic is adjacent to the world famous Human Performance Laboratory and Sports Medicine Centre.
The Running Injury Clinic serves as a public facility for the clinical assessment of musculoskeletal injuries for walkers and runners as well as a dynamic research laboratory. Research projects ongoing include pathomechanics and optimal treatment of patellofemoral pain syndrome in runners, validation of clinical exams and optimization of treatment for non-specific low back pain, pathomechanics of iliotibial band syndrome, the relationship between foot structure and foot biomechanics, and optimal treatment protocols for knee osteoarthritis using real-time feedback. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent in Biomechanics or Mechanical Engineering, Physiology, or other related fields are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge in gait and lower extremity biomechanics. Clinical experience as a licensed health practitioner (i.e. Athletic Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist) would be an advantage. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
