    Faculty Positions in Rehabilitation Robotics
    University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
    The University of Michigan seeks to hire four Assistant Professors in the area of Rehabilitation Robotics. This is part of the University's Interdisciplinary Junior Faculty Initiative. We define Rehabilitation Robotics as the underlying science and/or development of robotic devices for improving function or mobility of individuals with physical disabilities. It includes the design and evaluation of powered devices for movement therapy (e.g. after a stroke or spinal cord injury) as well as robotic devices for chronically assisting human function (e.g. powered prosthetics and orthotics). The four faculty positions are designed to provide complementary skills and to facilitate a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment that will accelerate the development, testing, and effective utilization of such devices. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research and will contribute proactively to teaching and to the diversity of the academic community. The areas of specialization for the four positions and the respective units of appointment are:

    Biomechanics (School of Kinesiology)
    Mechatronics (Department of Mechanical Engineering)
    Brain-Computer Interfaces (Department of Biomedical Engineering)
    Clinical Research (Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)

    Desired Qualifications: A Ph.D. and/or M.D., and post-doctoral experience in one of the four specialty areas listed above or related areas; a strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; a record of innovative research; and evidence of an ability to work in collaborative research teams. For the position in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the ideal candidate would provide both research and clinical experience related to the field (e.g. physiatrist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, prosthetist, or orthotist). All hires in the Rehabilitation Robotics cluster are expected to collaborate with each other and with other faculty.
