    Position: Research engineer / technician or post-doctoral fellow



    The Neuroscience and Rehabilitation Research Unit (NRRU) at the
    University of Ottawa has an immediate opening for a fulltime research
    engineer/technician; postdoctoral fellows are also invited to apply.



    The NRRU integrates the Human Movement Biomechanics Laboratory and the
    adjacent Virtual Reality Rehabilitation Research Laboratory. The NRRU
    evaluates human subjects across the lifespan while focusing on joint
    mechanics, motor development, mobility, human performance and
    pathologies which effect the aforementioned. Our research is currently
    funded by the CFI, the Province of Ontario LOF, NSERC, and CIHR, in
    addition to non-governmental funding sources.



    You will become an integral part of our research team and you will be
    recognized for your contributions to our research through scholarly
    publications and grant applications if applicable, while being supported
    in these endeavors by faculty from the Schools of Rehabilitation
    Sciences and Human Kinetics. As such, if you hold a are seeking
    post-doctoral experience and have the necessary technical background,
    this opportunity presents an excellent opportunity to work with new
    technologies like the CAREN system (www.motekmedical.com
    ) in a dynamic research environment.



    As part of our multidisciplinary team, your responsibilities will
    include:

    - provide technical support and general maintenance of
    laboratory equipment, including supervision of its use, to ensure it is
    research-ready and at optimal performance;

    - CAREN software applications support and system operator
    (training provided as needed);

    - help test and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and
    applications;

    - assist in the development and fulfillment of research
    projects;

    - other lab and research related responsibilities.



    Our facilities are state of the art and you will be working with:

    - over 450sqm research space

    - CAREN 6DoF motion platform integrated with Virtual Reality
    (visit www.motekmedical.com for
    details);

    - a 3DoF high-speed motion platform integrated with CAREN
    software and virtual reality in the gait lab;

    - 2 Vicon motion capture systems; 6 force platforms; 48
    channels of EMG; Biodex System-4 Pro;

    - updated computer systems and designated servers

    - workshop, tools, custom equipment etc...



    Qualifications:

    Master's or Ph.D. degree in biomechanics, biomedical engineering,
    electrical or mechanical engineering or related discipline.



    Required skills:

    - a high level of proficiency in Matlab, and LabView.

    - the technical ability to provide laboratory equipment support

    - previous experience in human movement analysis, including
    kinematic, kinetic and electromyographic data acquisition and
    post-processing

    - strong interpersonal and organizational skills



    Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience, qualifications
    and the guidelines of the University of Ottawa and the Canadian
    Foundation for Innovation.
