Research Associate Position in Biomechanics
Applications are now being accepted for a research position in
biomechanics at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and
Engineering Center (NSRDEC), located in Natick, MA. With load carriage a
current focus at Natick, the research appointment includes, but not
limited to, the following details: Develop and complete an in-depth
literature review to identify key gaps in soldier load carriage
research: Assist with planning and executing experimental methods for
researching soldier mobility and load carriage concepts and solutions:
Assist with the execution, collection, processing, and analysis of
applied load carriage research using motion capture camera systems,
force plates, surface electromyography, other biomechanics equipment and
related software: Assist with the measurement and analysis of mass
properties of Soldier load carriage equipment: Participate in write-up
and presentation preparation of study findings.
The initial appointment is for one year and may be renewed for up to a
total of four years based upon recommendation of NSRDEC and subject to
availability of funds. The appointment is full time at Natick, MA and
will be run thru the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education

Biomechanics Research at the NSRDEC includes a 7500 square foot facility
outfitted with state of the art equipment: two 3D motion capture and
analysis systems, in-ground and portable force platforms, two
force-sensing treadmills, EMG systems, and a variety of facilities to
quantify and assess human performance. The lab also includes specialized
equipment for measuring the mass properties of physical items.
Biomechanics personnel include multiple doctorally qualified,
credentialed investigators and a dedicated research staff. Personnel
have backgrounds in anthropology, biomechanics, biomedical engineering,
ergonomics, exercise science, and kinesiology. Biomechanics research at
Natick routinely includes collaboration with partners in cognitive
science, physiology, engineering, anthropometry, human factors, and
other areas. NSRDEC has the dedicated mission to maximize the Warrior's
survivability, sustainability, mobility, combat effectiveness and
quality of life by treating the Soldier as a System.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have received a bachelor's degree in
Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Exercise Science or
related discipline AND a master's degree in Biomechanics or related
discipline within five years of the desired starting date, or completion
of all requirements for the degree should be expected on or about the
starting date. Other applicants will be considered on a case-by-case
basis. The program is open to all qualified U.S. citizens without regard
to race, sex, religion, color, age, physical or mental disability,
