Job Description
Serve as a member of the USOC's Sport Performance Division and designated Sportfolio Team focusing on the development and delivery of meaningful, applied sport science and technology services for elite-level coaches and athletes. Demonstrate expertise and ability to integrate concepts across one or more areas of sport science including biomechanics, motor learning/skill acquisition, motor control, exercise physiology, notational/performance analysis, and coaching education. Demonstrate proficiency in integrating sensors and associated hardware for custom measurement and feedback field applications. Competence in numerical methods, computer programming, statistical analysis, and data presentation is required. Experience and aptitude in computer, electrical, and/or mechanical engineering is desired. Documented experience in athletics and coaching is preferred.
This position will be based at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Understand and interpret needs of sport organizations, coaches, and athletes. Lead and collaborate on the conceptualization, development, and implementation of successful and sustainable applied sport science programs which meet these needs and which focus on maximizing athlete development, performance, and longevity.
2. Utilize established mathematical, technological, and scientific techniques to analyze and compile performance data and design effective measurement and feedback applications.
3. Critically evaluate current and emerging trends in sport science and technology including video, new media, military technology, aerospace, motion capture and measurement, IT, broadcasting, wireless communication, measurement sensors, and sports equipment. Communicate potential worth and develop implementation and monitoring plans for sport organizations, coaches, and athletes.
4. Seek, develop, and foster relationships with sport science, human performance, and technology professionals throughout academic and commercial organizations.
5. Develop, present, and publish technical reports and applied educational materials relating to effective application of sport science and technology to athlete development and performance.
6. Contribute to the leadership of the Performance Technology professional team by developing educational content, developing and coordinating workshops, and generating new initiatives. Lead and mentor interns and research assistants when required.
7. Represent the USOC and Sport Performance Division through presence and participation at international industry and professional organizations and conferences, and through international exchange opportunities.
8. When required, serve as a spokesperson for the Sport Performance Division. Present information at events sponsored by various groups within the USOC, NGB, academic, professional organizations, or corporate communities
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment
Specialized technical equipment including computer systems, measurement sensors, analysis tools, and commercial video equipment.
CONDITIONS:
Office environment, multi-building complex;
Some outdoor settings in summer and winter conditions, in sport venues, and in unusual terrain.
Light to medium lifting;
Travel both domestically and internationally;
Non-traditional work hours including weekends and holidays
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. or equivalent in biomechanics, motor learning/skill acquisition, or performance technology (including computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering). Advanced coursework, training and/or experience in one or more of the following: mathematics, statistics, motor control, exercise physiology, notational/performance analysis, and coaching education;
8+ years experience working within an elite sport, applied sport science, or performance technology environment;
Extensive research and evaluation capabilities for new technologies and emerging trends;
Experience using software development environments, established numerical methods, and scientific techniques to acquire, analyze, and display data Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Demonstrated ability to focus on applied sport science and technology solutions.
Must possess a valid driver's license;
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid passport.
The position may be modified to a Senior Sport Technologist based on the background/experience/qualifications or the candidate.
