The Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training at Boston
University College of Health and Rehabilitation Science: Sargent College
invites applications for the position of Department Chair. We are
seeking an individual with strong leadership skills, an established
research program, and a professional vision consistent with emerging and
future health care practice patterns who will build on the department's
tradition of excellence in physical therapy, athletic training, and
rehabilitation science education, practice, and scholarship.
The Chair has overall responsibility for representing the department
within the university as well as locally, nationally, and
internationally. The Chair is a member of the Administrative Advisory
Council of Sargent College and is responsible for strategic planning,
faculty development and evaluation, coordination across programs, and
evaluation of departmental goals, programs and resources. The Chair
works in collaboration with program directors to ensure effective and
efficient delivery of academic programs.
The Department is housed within a vibrant academic and research
community including the College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences,
Boston University, and the metro Boston area. The Department offers
professional programs in Athletic Training and Physical Therapy and a
post-professional program in Physical Therapy. Research faculty also
participate in the interdisciplinary ScD program in Rehabilitation
Sciences. Active research areas of the Department include motor
adaptation and the dynamics of walking, rheumatological rehabilitation,
neurorehabilitation, and the relation between activity, participation
and environment. The department houses the NIDRR Rehabilitation Research
and Training Center in arthritis and several clinical service units
including the BU Physical Therapy Center and the Athletic Enhancement
Center. The College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences offers
professional and post-professional degree programs in health science,
nutrition, occupational therapy, and speech, language and hearing

This is a full-time tenured faculty position at the Associate/Professor
level. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Minimum qualifications include:
- Earned research doctoral degree; physical therapy professional degree
and licensure preferred
- An established record of funded research
- Demonstrated excellence in academic education
- Strong leadership skills in academic administration/management
- Strong leadership skills in faculty development
- Academic administrative/management experience in physical therapy
preferred
