  • Kinematics of the Mandible

    Good Morning List,

A visitor to our department just asked me an interesting question: what
happens if the geometry of the mandible is changed through surgery? The
changes are quite small, of the order of 1 to 4 mm of bone being removed
along the mandible (sorry, I don't know the correct medical term).

So my guess is that the statics change very little due to small
magnitude of the geometry change. However, I suppose that the kinematics
change quite dramatically since the mandible doesn't fit anymore
    exactly in it's articulations.

What I am looking for now is some literature on the kinematics
of the jaw bone and the influence of surgical alterations. I'll post
all replies to list, of course.

    Many thanks in advance,
