  • SAE Head and Neck Injury Symposium (U.S.)

    The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) as part of their Safety
    Series is giving a two day Head and Neck Injury Symposium at the
    Troy Marriott in Troy, Michigan (USA) on September 21st and 22nd.
    The symposium will offer a forum to convene medical professionals
    and automotive designers for discussions of relevant issues
    surrounding head and neck injuries. The symposium will address
    the anatomy and biomechanics of the head and neck and the latest
    developments in auto design for head and neck injury prevention.
    Topics are as follows:

    DAY ONE

    o Anatomy of the Head

    o Patterns of Head & Brain Injury
    (L. Dragovic, M.D., Chief M.E., Oakland County)

    o Clinical Aspects of Central Nervous System Trauma
    (P. Peterson, M.D., Neurologist, Univ. health Center)

    o Psychological Effects of Central Nervous System Trauma
    (J. Dooley, Director, Levin Pain Clinic)

    o Facial Trauma
    (S. Buchman, M.D., Univ. of Michigan Medical Center)

    o Biomechanics of Brain Injury
    (J. Melvin, PhD, GM Research Labs)

    o Models of Head Injury
    (P. Prasad, Ford Motors)

    o Prevention of Head & Neck Injuries
    (*Speaker to be announced)

    DAY TWO

    o Anatomy of the Neck
    (Dr. S. Mintz, Clinical Professor, Univ of Detroit)

    o Biomechanics of Neck Injuries
    (J. McElhaney, PhD, Professor, Duke Univ.)

    o Modeling of the Neck
    (P. Prasad, Ford Motors)

    o Musculoskeltal Injuries within the Neck
    (R. Levine, M.D., Professor, Wayne State School of Medicine)

    Clarence Ditlow, Director of the Center for Auto Safety is
    scheduled as the Lunch/Keynote Speaker during Day One.
