    I also would be interested in world-wide data of back pain if anyone can
    name the sources.

    According to The National Back Pain Association-UK (based on the
    information from Health and Safety Executive, DSS and DoH) the cost of back
    pain has increased by 20% from 1991 to 1992.

    At least 81 million certified days incapacity (1992/93)--excluding those on
    statutory sickness pay
    Approximately 7 million visits to the GP for backs
    350 million cost to National Health Service
    33,000 work related back accidents
    50,0000 work related illnesses
