A position is available immediately in the Motor Development
Laboratory in the Psychology Department at Indiana University
working with Esther Thelen on issues of infant motor control.
Projects include the development of arm trajectory control in
infants, the development of locomotion, and a new project using
3-D torque perturbations on infant limbs. The torque perturbation
research is to be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Steven
Barlow of the IU Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Our
laboratory has pioneered in the use of kinematic and inverse
    dynamic techniques in infants.

The motor development lab is very well equipped with
WATSMART and PEAK motion analysis systesm, both with 4 camera
capability interfaced with hardware and software for concurrent
EMG. We also have extensive video equipment. Computers include
a Unix-based HP Apollo 9000 series networked server with very
large processing and storage capabilities and extensive custom
    software.

I am looking for a person with a movement science
background, including strong biomechanical and mathematical
skills, especially in signal processing and/or dynamical analysis.
It is essential for the person to be familiar with the UNIX system
because some management and programming will be necessary. Working
with infants requires ingenuity and patience, as well. Women
and minority persons are especially encouraged.

Indiana University provides an exciting, interdisciplinary
atmosphere for movement scientists, with possible collaborations
with Cognitive scientists, neuroscientists and laboratories in
    Speech and Hearing and Kinesiology.

Interested persons can call (812 855 2042) or email me
    (THELENE@ucs.indiana.edu) for further information. Application
materials should include a vitae, publications, and the names
    of three references.
