  • Gait Analysis with Walking Aids

    Dear all,

We are planning to do regular gait analysis pre and post-op for children
with cerebral palsy undergoing tendon surgery. We are primarily interested
in joint kinetics, such as moments and powers, which require knowledge of
ground reaction forces. Of course, many of the subjects walk with the aid
of crutches or walkers. Is there any simple way of accomodating these aids
in a bio-mechanical model? I am aware of methods for instrumenting crutches
and walkers, but this would be impractical for the numbers of subjects
we'll be studying, and extra force plates to catch the crutch/walker
contact would be very complicated to arrange and analyse. Any clever ideas?

    Many Thanks,

    Chris
