    Hello Biomch-l'ers,

I am forwarding a post-doc advertisement that I thought the list would be
    interested in reading.

POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH STAFF MEMBER IN COMPUTATIONAL BIOMECHANICS

INSTITUTE FOR SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING RESEARCH (ISCR)

    UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
    LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY (LLNL)
    P.O. BOX 808, L-416
    LIVERMORE, CA 94550

The Institute for Scientific Computing Research, a University of California
Institute located at LLNL, is developing a finite element model of the human
hand. As part of this effort we are developing a general set of
computational biomechanical simulation and analysis tools that can be used
to understand both the behavior of any patient's joints and the
prevention and treatment of impaired joints. LLNL is bringing its
history of excellence in computational modeling and engineering to focus
on the modeling of biomechanical dynamics and control. LLNL is a research
and development laboratory administered by the University of California
    for the Department of Energy.

    NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

We are currently seeking excellent candidates for a postdoctoral position
that will include research in some or all of the following areas: tissue
segmentation, automated mesh generation, finite element modeling and code
development, including parallelizing finite element code, and 3D visualization.
There will be opportunities for interaction and collaboration with
interdisciplinary scientists in the academic community and with private
industry. Appointees are expected to perform research resulting in
publications in leading computational and related journals and to participate
fully in the ISCR, including its seminar series and research activities.

    LOCATION

LLNL is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Coastal and mountain
recreational areas are abundant nearby. The ISCR has collaborations with
nearby universities, including UC Berkeley, Stanford, and UC Davis.

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to:
Identify complex problems and solve them in a creative and timely manner
    Carry out independent research
Communicate clearly in both oral and written form.

Candidates must possess a recent Ph.D. in Physics, Biology, Mathematics,
Computer Science, or Engineering with a research background in one or more
    of these areas.

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 1 year (with possible renewal for 3 years total)

SALARY: In the range $46,000-54,000 per annum depending on experience and
    qualifications.
