    Dear footwear biomechanists!

Martyn Shorten promised to kling to the deadlines and inform
the authors about their abstracts next week. I wanted to make sure
that you remember the deadlines for registration then in order to
    prevent you from higher rates.

    Dates and Deadlines:

short abstract 1/2 page (DIN A4) March 15th,1995
notification mailed to authors April 15th,1995
    deadline early registration May 5th,1995
deadline for accomodation requests May 30th,1995
last date for cancellation refunds June 1st,1995
deadline for two page abstract June 28th,1995

For everybody who is interested in the symposium and has not yet been
informed a brief version of the announcement will follow:

    International Society of Biomechanics
    WORKING GROUP ON FUNCTIONAL FOOTWEAR
B iomechanics of F unctional F ootwear Symposium
    June 28-30, 1995
    German Sports University Cologne, Germany

The Symposium is intended to fit conveniently into the schedules of
those attending the ISB Congress in Jyvaeskyla, Finland (July 2nd-
6th). Direct flight are available daily from Duesseldorf via Helsinki.

The primary aim of the ISB working group is to provide a forum for
those interested in biomechanical aspects of clinical, athletic and
other kinds of functional footwear. The Symposium will built on the
successful format of the first Symposium, with extended seminar
presentations by envited speakers and opportunities for extended
discussion of significant issues in footwear biomechanics. App. half
of the Symposium will be devoted to original papers.

    AREAS OF INTEREST
    - the influence of footwear on the kinematics and kinetics of human
    movement.
    - the influence of footwear and footwear design on human performance
    - application of biomechanics research to the design of clinical and
    athletic footwear
    - the role of footwear in the prevention and treatment of deseases of
    the lower extremity
    - the role of footwear in the prevention and treatment of athletic
    injuries
    - influence of footwear on the etiology, occurence and frequency of
    athletic injuries
    - the relationship between shoe biomechanical properties and human
    subjects' perceptions
    - methods for laboratory and field measurement of a shoe's
    biomechanical properties

The official language will be English.
