Fractal Design's new program Poser may be exactly what you are looking for.
My copy still hasn't arrived, but the one demo I've seen was impressive. It's
kind of like an artist's maquette (sp?) on computer. You can manipulate each
of the joints, render the whole, cover it with muscle or other textures,
change the sex, size, and proportions of the figure, and export the whole
thing in DXF format or FD's own.
