  • Non-video tilt measurement?

    Greetings,
I am a mechanical engineering student doing some research using
accelerometers to measure the movement of the foot during walking and
running. During our first round of testing we collected video and
accelerometer data simultaneously. For analysis we calculated the
angle of tilt of the foot from the video marker positions.
We would like to find the angle of foot tilt using only two (or
three) accelerometers and without having to do the video analysis.
Is there a way to do this without resorting to double integrations?
We are trying various forms of filtering on the acceleration but
would welcome suggestions. (I do most of my work in Matlab). Has
anyone tried using a magneto-resistive sensor to measure tilt from
the earth's magnetic field? How about any other kind of sensor?
Thanks in advance for your help.
