    TITLE: Biomedical Engineer

    DEPARTMENT: Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    To participate in applied and technical research on methods of low back
    injury reduction at the Vermont Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center
    on Low Back Pain. Participate in research projects aimed at quantifying
    biomechanical stresses related to low back injuries in industry.

    - Plan, design and evaluate research projects, new protocols, and
    experiments in collaboration with faculty. Assist in developing and
    writing new research grant proposals.

    - Implement research objectives to include the design, manufacture and
    operation of mechanical and electrical instrumentation to be used as
    experimental tools.

    - Develop and modify computer software for customized experimental
    analysis applications.

    - Perform and/or oversee the performance of field and laboratory
    activities to include: set up equipment, conduct experiments, monitor
    results and collect data. Experiments may involve in-vitro
    material, cadaveric specimens or human subjects.

    - Assist in the analysis and reporting of experimental data; assist in
    preparation for formal publication of research progress and findings.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomechanical/medical, or Ergonomic
    Engineering or related field plus two to three years' significant related
    experience is required.
