  • C3D file format available on ftp

    From: Andy Dainis -- dainis%bmlvax.dnet@dxi.nih.gov

Because the C3D file format is experiencing considerable popularity, I have
decided to post a detailed description of the C3D file format, and a couple
programs that may be used to access data and parameters in C3D files.

The C3D file format was developed by myself in 1987 for storing 3D coord-
inate and associated analog data, and all parameters pertinent to that data.

Currently, C3D files are standard output for:

AMASS software system (ADTECH, Adelphi, MD)
VICON-VX and VICON 370 systems (Oxford Metrics Ltd., Oxford, England)

    and standard input for:

MOVE3D (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD)
VICON Clinical Manager (Oxford Metrics Ltd., Oxford, England)

The C3D file is binary, but the parameter section is designed so that it may
be interactively accessed by a program called PRM. I am now making the PRM
program available to the public. A second program RDFRME allows frames of
C3D files to be displayed on the screen. Both programs run under DOS.
Included also are a text file describing the file and parameter formats,
some FORTRAN sources, and a 16-bit FORTRAN library for accessing the
parameters from programs. I hope to make a 32-bit FORTRAN version available
    shortly.

The ftp site for downloading these files is

    bmli1.cc.nih.gov

and the files are located in the directory

    pub/c3d_files

Two files are contained in this directory. One is README.TXT which briefly
describes the files in the second file which is the self-extracting file
    PRMPUB.EXE .
