You asked in your last post if there had ever been a change in injury
patterns with changes in sports equipment. I believe that ankle injuries to
snow skiers was a much larger problem until new bindings and boots were
designed. Once these new designs were produced, knee injuries started to
increase, and ankle injuries became a thing of the past.
I believe I heard this on a Discovery program dealing with knee
replacements, so I can't offer any solid references. Just my .02 cents
worth, so I hope this helps.
