    Rules for Abstract Submission (Please use the Abstract Submission Form at
    the end of this message):

    1. Deadline for receipt of abstracts is ***February 8, 1996*** to guarantee
    notification of acceptance by March 4, 1996.
    2. An abstract may be selected as either a 10 minute oral presentation or a
    poster presentation at the discretion of the Scientific Organizing
    Committee. Authors should indicate their preference.
    3. Presenters will be required to register and pay the registration fee.
    Presenters are responsible for their travel and per diem expenses.
    4. All accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference Abstract Book.
    5. Abstracts should be written in English, the official language of the
    conference.
    6. Content of abstract, NOT TO EXCEED 250 WORDS:
    a) Title: Make the title brief, but indicate clearly the topic of the
    investigation.
    b) Authors: Use initials plus the family name. Include affiliations as
    appropriate.
    c) A statement of the purpose of the study (preferably one sentence).
    d) A statement of the method used.
    e) A summary of the results, presented in sufficient detail to support the
    conclusions.
    f) A statement of the conclusions reached. (It is not satisfactory to state
    "The results will be discussed").
    g) Figures and References should not be included as part of any abstract.
    h) Formulae should, in general, be avoided.
    i) The use of standard abbreviations is desirable. Special or unusual
    abbreviations should come in brackets after the full word when it first
    appears in the text. Do not use abbreviations in the title.
    j) Save the abstract as an ASCII file for electronic transmission. Send it
    in the body of an e-mail message to ifess96@po.cwru.edu . If electronic
    mail is not possible, abstracts printed in a 12 point helvetica/arial font
    (two copies) will be accepted if received by mail prior to the deadline.

    7. EACH ABSTRACT SUBMISSION MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION as
    indicated on the Abstract Submission Form that is attached:
    a) Specification of Abstract Category- The author must choose the category
    that best describes the topic of the abstract. This is for review purposes
    only. Abstracts on ANY TOPIC of electrical stimulation in medicine will be
    accepted for review.
    1. Upper limb movement
    2. Lower limb movement
    3. Respiratory function
    4. Bladder/bowel/sexual function
    5. Prevention of secondary complications of paralysis
    6. Dynamic myoplasty
    7. Stimulation/sensor technology
    8. Control strategies
    b) Preference for Oral or Poster Presentation
    c) First author's full name and contact information.
    d) Speaker's name, if different.

    Program Information:

    IFESS '96 is being held in conjunction with the Case Western Reserve
    University (CWRU) Applied Neural Control Research Day, an annual program
    that highlights Cleveland research in electrical stimulation for functional
    restoration. A joint symposium on muscle fatigue is planned for the morning
    of May 14th. Paper and poster presentations will be held on the afternoon
    of May 14th through the morning of May 16th. An evening social program and
    visits to the Cleveland laboratories are being planned.

    Registration Information:

    Registration details are being finalized. Deadline for registration will be
    April 8th. Registration expenses are being minimized to the extent possible.
    The conference is being held on the campus of CWRU. Housing is available at
    a nearby hotel. Most meals will be at the discretion of the attendee. Due
    to the university commencement on May 19th, local accommodations,
    particularly after May 15th, have very limited availability. Early housing
    reservations, prior to April 8th, are essential to guarantee your
    accommodations.
