ISTA (formerly ISSCP) was incorporated in Nice, France, in
1990, to promote international and interdisciplinary advanc-
es in the science and technology of joint replacement. It is
directed by an international Board with world-wide represen-
tation. Annual Symposia, featuring invited lectures and free
communications, are held in turn in Europe and America.
Earlier international symposia were held in D sseldorf
(1988), Chicago (1989), Nice (1990), San Francisco (1991)
London (1992), Amelia Island (1993), Rome (1994), and
Puerto Rico (1995).
The 9th annual symposium of the ISTA in Amsterdam,
1996, will be held in association with the 20th World Con-
gress of SICOT. The main thrust of the scientific program
will be in scientifically documented patient outcome studies,
pre-clinical testing, emerging technologies in arthroplasty
design, production and application. The Symposium is
meant to provide a forum for orthopaedic surgeons, bio-
medical engineers and scientists, and manufacturers.
CALL FOR PAPERS
For oral or poster presentation at the symposium authors
are invited to submit a 250 word abstract to the Scientific
Secretariat in Nijmegen, prior to April 15, 1996.
Authors are invited particularly to submit abstracts concern-
ing technology, testing, application and results of arthro-
plasty in the following subjects:
Knee revision surgery
Hip revision surgery
Fixed versus mobile bearing knee prostheses
Prosthetic coatings
Acetabular cup fixation techniques
Cement delivery systems
Clinical migration studies
Metal on metal bearing surfaces
Modular and salvage prostheses
Custom made prostheses
Other subjects submitted will be covered by poster
presentations.

Registration Fee
The registration fee will be approximately NLG 500,- (Dutch
Guilders), and includes the abstract book, coffee, lunches
and banquet.
Exhibition
As the symposium is run parallel to the World Congress of
SICOT, an extensive industrial exhibition will be held. ISTA
participants can visit this exhibition free of charge.
Howard A. Paul, D.V.M. Award
In recognition of Dr. Paul's outstanding contribution to the
field of Technology in Arthroplasty, the Society will award a
$1,000 cash prize to the best paper in this field. Three
copies of the full paper should be submitted to the Secretar-
iat no later than June 1st, 1996. The results of the Ad Hoc
Committee on the Howard A. Paul Award will be final.
