The following announcement may be of interest to the Biomechanics community.
My staff and I are currently assisting Dr. Quatrano of the NCMRR (see below)
in the planning and execution of this "working" conference. You may contact
me or Dr. Quatrano for additional information.

    CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
    ************************************************** **********************

    Gait Analysis in Rehabilitation Medicine

    September 26-28, 1996
    Sponsored by:
National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research
National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
    National Institutes of Health

    Background:
The mission of the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR)
is to foster development of scientific knowledge needed to enhance the health,
productivity, independence, and quality of life of persons with disabilities.
This is accomplished by supporting research that enhances the function of
people with disabilities. A primary goal of the NCMRR is to bring the health
related problems of people with disabilities to the attention of the Nation's
best scientists in order to capitalize upon the myriad of advances occurring in
the biological, behavioral, and engineering sciences.

    Purpose:
The primary purpose of this meeting is to formulate a set of recommendations
which pertain to the role of gait analysis in enhancing the function of people
with locomotion disabilities. The NCMRR will use the recommendations
contained in the final published report to support the Center's mission.

    Focus:
Conference attendees will be asked to participate in the activities of one of
three working groups. The goal of each working group will be to develop a set
of recommendations pertaining to a topic. The following topics will be
    addressed:

    1) The use of gait analysis as a patient assessment tool.

    2) The use of gait analysis assessments in treatment planning and/or treatment
    implementation.

    3) Factors which prevent the lives of people with locomotion disabilities from
being positively impacted by gait analysis.

    Participants:
The conference is designed to accommodate between 60 and 80 participants.
Individuals with knowledge, expertise, and/or experience in the use of gait
analysis as a Rehabilitation Medicine tool are encouraged to attend. A broad
spectrum of professional representation is being sought.
