The Cleveland FES Center (a consortium of the Dept. of Veterans
Affairs, MetroHealth Medical Center, Case Western Reserve
University, and the Edison Biotechnology Center) is seeking a
Research Associate to lead our efforts to develop and validate
musculoskeletal models of the human upper and lower extremities.
The qualified candidate will have an earned doctorate in
Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related
field, and will have experience in developing computer models of
human limb and muscular dynamics.
The successful candidate will collaborate with other investigators
to improve existing models of the upper and lower extremities, and
to adapt these models to reflect changes following spinal cord
injury or stroke. The goals of this work are to increase the
understanding of normal neural control mechanisms and to assess
surgical methods and neuroprosthetic techniques for restoration of
movement. Current modeling projects include hand grasp, wrist
function, and elbow control in the upper extremity, and standing,
balance, and locomotion in the lower extremity. Participating
Investigators include Drs. Howard Chizeck, Patrick Crago, Michael
Keith, Kevin Kilgore, Robert Kirsch, Joseph Mansour, Byron
Marsolais, Hunter Peckham, and Ronald Triolo.
