    PhD Scholarship in Applied Psychology
    (Visual Regulation of Locomotion)

    The University of Birmingham
School of Sport and Exercise Sciences

A PhD scholarship is available for European citizens to pursue
research in experimental and applied psychology within the School of
Sport and Exercise Sciences. The scholarship is for three years and
the starting date is negotiable though a start date of October 1996
would be preferrable. In accordance with University policy,
registration will normally be for the degree of MPhil initially, with
subsequent transfer to the PhD programme conditional on
satisfactory performance. The yearly value of the scholarship is
5,500 pounds sterling per annum plus fees. In addition, there is
usually the opportunity to earn extra money by contributing to the
School's undergraduate teaching programmes. Applicants would
normally be expected to have obtained a 2.1 or equivalent in their
    first degree.

The applicant will be expected to investigate the visual regulation of
locomotion in humans. Applicants should have good mathematical
skills and a knowledge of biomechanics. Familiarity with dynamical
systems would be advantageous. Prior knowledge of psychology,
while helpful, is not a pre-requisite for appointment.

Applications should be in the form of a curriculum vitae with the name
and address of two academic referees. In the first instance, informal
    inquiries should be directed to:
