INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WEIGHTLIFTING AND STRENGTH TRAINING
Dates: November 10-12, 1998
Place: Lahti, Finland
In conjunction with the World Weightlifting Championships 1998 an 'International
Conference on Weightlifting and Strength Training' will be arranged in the city of Lahti,
Finland. During this three-day scientific and coaching Conference the leading researchers
and experts from around the world will give several keynote lectures in the following
four main sessions:
1) BIOMECHANICS AND PHYSIOLOGY OF STRENGTH TRAINING
. Neuromuscular Bases of Strength & Power Training in Men and Women
. Weightlifting as a Tool for Physical Fitness
. Hormonal Adaptation to Strength Training
. Strength Training for Muscle Hypertrophy
2) STRENGTH TRAINING FOR CONDITIONING OF NORMAL PEOPLE
. Aging and Strength & Power
. Strength Training in Elderly Men and Women
. Musculoskeletal System and Training in the Elderly
3) MEDICAL ASPECTS IN STRENGTH TRAINING
. Antidoping in Weightlifting and Power Sports
. Injury Prevention in Strength Training
4) WEIGHTLIFTING: BIOMECHANICS, PHYSIOLOGY AND VARIOUS COACHING
METHODOLOGIES
. Weightlifting Technique in Men and Women
. Trainability of Junior Weightlifters
. Psychology of Competition in Weightlifters
. Organization of Coaching Systems in Different Countries
The Conference program will also include poster sessions in which researchers and
experts in the field are warmly encouraged to present original data of their studies.
The poster sessions also provide an excellent opportunity for coaches and clinicians
to present interesting methodological and experience-based items from the above
mentioned four main areas.
The keynote lectures as well as the poster presentations of the Conference create an
outstanding forum for discussion about the latest research information and new ideas
on weightlifting and strength training for the following groups of participants:
. Researchers, physiologists, physicians and physiotherapists
. Exercise instructors, athletic trainers, students & teachers in physical education
. Weightlifting and other power & strength coaches and athletes
