Dear Biomch_l List users.
I realize that this list is not intended for use in job searching and hope you
will excuse the nature of this message, but I am writing to request advice about
entering the field of Biomechanics from a Mechanical Engineering background. I
am a fairly recent college graduate with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and a
Certificate in Engineering Biology, both from Princeton University.
I am currently trying to find a research and/or development position in
biomechanics, specifically Gait and Locomotion, Orthopedics, Prosthetics, or
Motor Control.
One difficulty is that in many major databases, my areas of interest fall
outside of the most closely related basic categories- i.e. Mechanical
Engineering, Biotechnology, and Health Care and Medical Products. Most
Biotechnology or Medical Science resources that I have found lean toward
Molecular Biology and Biochemistry related areas, and do not include much
information in the areas in which I am interested.
I have located two helpful resources on the Web:
1. Biomechanics World Wide (include the job page affiliated with this list)
2. BME Net.
These have been very useful, but I would greatly appreciate information
regarding other resources accessible to someone not currently working in
Biomechanics, either on-line or of the more traditional variety.
Any advice regarding job hunting strategies or resources would be greatly
appreciated, as would more specific information about contacts or job openings.
I would be happy to send my resume privately to anyone who is interested. Thank
you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Loren Bentley
