    Assistant Professor

    Beginning Fall 1997

    **Description of Position**
    Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Physical Education in
    the area of Exercise Science with an emphasis in Clinical Exercise

    **Responsibilities of the Position**
    1. Teach classes in the undergraduate exercise science and physical fitness
    specialization (e.g. exercise physiology, graded exercise testing, and
    exercise and weight control).
    2. Teach undergraduate courses in Biomechanics and Kinesiology.
    3. Teach methods for special populations in the undergraduate Teacher
    Education Program.
    4. Teach in the University Core Curriculum Program.
    5. Direct graduate student theses.
    6. Implement an outreach adult physical fitness program.
    7. Do research and service in the clinical aspect of Exercise Physiology,
    including the pursuit of external funding, as part of a successful tenure
    and promotion process.

    **Requirements of the Candidate**
    The rank of Assistant Professor requires the doctorate in Physical
    Education or an area relevant to the duties described. Applicants who have
    completed all requirements, including the dissertation, by August 16, 1997,
    will be considered. If official evidence of completion of the earned
    doctoral requirements is not received by August 15, 1997, this position
    will be changed to a term position with the rank of Instructor with a lower
    salary. American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certification as an
    Exercise Test Technologist or Exercise Specialist is also desireable.

    **Appointment and Salary**
    This is a continuing appointment in which tenure may be attained.
    Appointment is for a nine-month academic year. An additional summer
    appointment may be possible if there is funding and student demand. Salary
    is commensurate with experience and background. Progress in rank and salary
    will require demonstration of productivity in teaching, research and
    publication, and service.
