Qualifications:
B.S. in Biomedical Engineering (or related field),
demonstrated software skills, and/or
experience performing experiments on human subjects
AND 2 years related experience, or equivalent.
(M.S. would be desired)
The Neural Control Laboratory is primarily directed at the design and
evaluation of systems to restore control of posture and movement to
individuals with neuromotor disorders. The research program focuses on
the development of controllers for systems that utilize electrical
stimulation to activate paralyzed muscles. Research projects typically
involve experiments on human subjects in conjunction with extensive
computer simulation studies. The Laboratory is currently involved in
research projects funded by The National Institutes of Health , The
Whitaker Foundation and The University of Kentucky.
Responsibilities for the position of Biomedical Research Engineer will
include software/programming tasks (e.g. programming in Labview, C/C++
or Matlab, computer simulations using biomechanical models and neural
network controllers, real-time control system/data processing software
development, Unix workstation management), experiments on human subjects
(e.g. perform experiments aimed at evaluating control system
performance, analyze experimental data, write reports), hardware tasks
(e.g. maintain and/or develop instrumentation for sensor signal
processing and neuromuscular stimulation), and laboratory management
tasks (ordering equipment and supplies, documentation, equipment
maintenance).
Qualified applicants would have a B.S. or M.S in Biomedical Engineering
or a related field, demonstrated software skills (e.g. programming in C,
C++, Matlab, Labview; Unix system experience), hardware skills
(bio-instrumentation and associated circuitry), and/or experience
performing experiments on human subjects (e.g. rehabilitation
engineering/assistive technology assessment, motor control experiments).
