Position Announcement: Physiology
Rank: Assistant Professor, tenure track.
Qualifications and responsibilities: Earned doctoral degree with
specialization in physiology or exercise physiology. Postdoctoral
training is preferred. The appointee will be expected to have sufficient
expertise to assist in teaching courses in undergraduate human and
exercise physiology, and/or graduate courses in areas related to his/her
research expertise. The development of an independent research program
that is competitive for extramural funding is required. Preference will
be given to applicants with demonstrated research/teaching proficiency in
the areas of cardiovascular or muscle physiology and/or metabolism
particularly as they relate to exercise, aging or rehabilitation. Other
responsibilities include supervision of student research, including
advising master's theses and doctoral dissertations, academic counseling
of undergraduate and graduate students, service on faculty committees,
and other duties as appropriate. The department is seeking an individual
who can provide leadership and energy in the development of an
outstanding program in the physiological sciences.
General Information: The Department of Exercise and Movement Science
(EMS) offers a cross-disciplinary undergraduate degree which emphasizes
the development of students interested in medicine and health science
professions. The degree program consists of courses in the biological,
physical, and social sciences. EMS currently has approximately 250
undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Graduates in EMS seek positions
in medicine, physical therapy, nursing, and dentistry or
research/teaching at the university level.
