POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN HUMAN MOTOR CONTROL (2)

Faculty of Sciences, University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba, Qld,
    AUSTRALIA

Applications are sought from suitably qualified persons to work in the
Human Motor Control Laboratory with the research team of Professor Jeff
Summers, Dr Shirley Wilson, Dr Paul Treffner, and Dr Winston Byblow. The
research team is currently working on two projects. The successful
applicants will have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline and have the
ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and with patient populations.
A track record of publications published or submitted to international
    refereed research journals is essential.

The MOVEMENT DISORDERS project is ARC funded and aims to investigate
commonalities between motor deterioration with aging and Parkinson's
disease. A multidisciplinary approach will be adopted, using dynamical
systems theory to bridge neurophysiological and behavioural levels of
analysis. Applicants for this position will be expected to have skills and
experience using electrophysiological techniques. A background in dynamical
systems theory is desirable. This appointment is for a limited term of up
    to three years.
REF No: 97/011 Closing Date: 7 February 1997.

The MOTOR CONTROL project examines the means by which intentionality
interacts with intrinsic constraints imposed by the neuromuscular-skeletal
system to determine the stability and adaptability of coordinated movement.
Applicants for this position will be expected to have experience and
research interests in motor control from a cognitive and/or dynamical
systems perspective. This appointment is for a limited term of up to one
    year.
REF No: 97/021 Closing Date: 7 February 1997.

Salary Range: Academic Level A, A$30144 to A$40889 per annum.

    The Human Motor Control Laboratory
The Motor Control Laboratory is situated within the Department of
Psychology at USQ. The Laboratory is well equipped for human movement
analysis with an Optotrak 3D kinematic data collection system, together
with dedicated dynamical system analysis packages running on various Sun
workstations. A range of electrophysiological techniques are available
including EMG, TMS (Transcranial magnetic stimulation), and EEG. Associated
IBM-compatible and Macintosh computers are available for further analyses.

    The University of Southern Queensland
The University is an exciting, rapidly developing university with 17,500
students, of whom two-thirds are studying by distance education. High
quality and innovative teaching programmes combined with flexible delivery
have earned USQ a reputation as a progressive university. The University is
located on 86 hectares of scenic parkland just 7 kms from the city centre
of Toowoomba. Toowoomba is Australia's "Garden City", has a growing
population of over 90,000 and is within comfortable driving distance of the
State's capital city, Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.
