  • Post-Docs in Cartilage Tissue Engineering

UC San Diego, Department of Bioengineering

Two NIH-funded positions are expected to become available
on 4/1/97 to support investigations on the biomechanics,
biomechanical regulation of signal transduction and gene
expression, and extracellular matrix remodelling in
aging, repair, and osteoarthritic human articular cartilage.

The positions are within an interdisciplinary research group
within the UCSD Department of Bioengineering that focuses
on basic science aspects of Cartilage Tissue Engineering.
Examples of our recent studies include:
    * Reindel et al. J Orthop Res 13:751-760, 1995
    * Schinagl et al. Ann Biomed Eng 24:500-512, 1996

The research project is part of an expanding multi-investigator
program that involves active collaborations with established
investigators in the UCSD Departments of Bioengineering,
    Orthopaedic Surgery, Medicine-Rheumatology, and Biomedical
Sciences, as well as expert collaborators outside of UCSD.

UCSD offers a cohesive and stimulating overall academic
environment for postdoctoral scientists to engage in the study
of human disease mechanisms and therapies from a Biomedical
Engineering perspective. Core bioengineering facilities, training
courses, and workshops that facilitate advances in Tissue
Engineering Science at UCSD are supported, in part, by an
ongoing Development Award from the Whitaker Foundation.

Please send a statement of interests and CV to:

It will be especially convenient for those who are planning to attend
the Annual Meeting of the Orthopaedic Research Society in San
Fransisco on Feb. 9-13 to inquire and apply before then. I would
like to meet with individuals interested in these positions at the
    ORS. Thank you.
